When to Schedule,

Where to Go and

What Time Works Best

Maternity sessions are typically photographed between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully visible and movement still feels comfortable.

For first pregnancies, many parents prefer scheduling closer to 32–34 weeks, while second or later pregnancies are often photographed slightly earlier, around 28–32 weeks, as the bump can appear sooner and energy levels may shift earlier as well.

Whenever possible, sessions take place around sunrise or sunset, when the light is soft and flattering and the environment feels calm and natural. Sunset sessions are the most popular, though sunrise offers a quiet and intimate atmosphere with fewer distractions.

Choosing a simple location helps keep the focus on connection rather than surroundings. Open fields, shorelines, quiet trails, or even your home can all photograph beautifully. When selecting a location, consider how comfortable it is to walk through, how private the space feels, and whether it reflects something meaningful to you. I’m always happy to help recommend locations that photograph especially well in this light.

Fitted

Fitted knit dresses are another beautiful option and create a clean, timeless look that softly emphasizes your shape while keeping everything feeling natural and comfortable.

The perfect relaxed outfit and one of my favourite maternity looks.

A relaxed pair of jeans paired with an oversized white button-up creates an effortless, intimate feel that photographs beautifully both outdoors and in-home. The shirt can be worn open or partially buttoned for a softer lifestyle look.

You can also pair jeans with a black or white bralette with your oversized button up on top creating a comfortable and relaxed look, allowing for beautiful bump photos.

Preparation Tips for a

Comfortable Session

A few small things can make your

session feel even more comfortable

and relaxed

Drink plenty of water the day before and bring some with you to your session.

Wear comfortable shoes to walk in, especially if we’re meeting outdoors. Heels can always be brought along if you'd like them for a few photos.

Plan outfits that allow you to move easily and feel like yourself.

Bring one to three meaningful baby items to include so your session is more personal to you.
